The Problem
At 10:40pm on a Sunday, the owner of a small fashion boutique on a Yorkville side street got the call from her alarm company: the main display window had been smashed. The lite was a single 10mm tempered panel, roughly 6 ft by 8 ft, and it had fallen out of the frame in cubes across the sidewalk and the window display.
She called our 24/7 line at 10:48pm. The Elite Glass Repair Toronto Crew arrived at 10:55pm, inside our 2-hour 416 window by a wide margin because the truck was finishing a job in the Annex.

Board-Up and Documentation
The crew cleared the sidewalk and the display, photographed the frame and damage for the adjuster, and measured the daylight opening and pocket depth. By 11pm, two sheets of 15mm OSB were screwed to the aluminium frame and sealed with Dow Corning 795, so the store was locked and weathertight overnight.
The owner already had an Intact claim number from her broker. We sent the adjuster the photo set, the measurements and an itemised quote on Monday morning.
Materials
- CSA A440 10mm clear tempered glass, made to size by a certified fabricator
- New neoprene setting blocks and EPDM gaskets
- Dow Corning 795 perimeter seal
The surviving storefront lites were standard clear, not low-iron, so the replacement was matched to keep the frontage uniform from the street.

Final Cost
The total came to $4,200 CAD: the emergency board-up, the 10mm tempered panel, new blocks and gaskets, labour for a three-person set and the Dow Corning 795 seal. Intact was direct-billed for everything above the deductible. The owner paid nothing out of pocket beyond that and did not have to front the cost.
The store opened as usual on Monday behind the board, and the display was back in the window by Tuesday evening. Related service: storefront glass replacement.
